INTRODUCTION

It is not a secret that education plays an important role in the life of any individual.

Currently, it is possible to use various approaches to getting education and meeting

personal, academic and developmental needs. Online education and traditional

education are two popular approaches to receiving bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral

degrees. Although online education and traditional education serve the same purposes,

there are certain differences between them in terms of the proposed teaching methods,

lifestyles, scores and costs. Now in Colombia, studying at home is a privilege that

most of us have.

COMPARISON BETWEEN ONLINE AND TRADITIONAL EDUCATION

To start with, online education differs from traditional education in terms of the

proposed teaching methods. As a rule, students who have selected traditional

education are provided with widely accepted, traditional methods of teaching such as

lectures and seminars and other face-to-face methods. The students involved in online

programs are provided with more convenient teaching methods such as special

computer programs, online discussion forums, action learning methods, and others.

“Online classes also give students more autonomy over their learning, and allow them

to work at an individualized pace... Today, about 1 in every 4 students claim that they

learn better via online classes. This means that 3 out of 4 students still feel they

perform better in a traditional classroom setting”1. At least it happens at the Distrital

University.

It becomes clear that online students use books, textbooks, peer-reviewed articles and

other academic resources to obtain necessary information and complete academic

papers, but they need not to sit at their desks in the classrooms and raise their hands

when they have some questions or want to give answers to the teachers’ questions.

Online education provides various learning experiences that are aimed at addressing

the individual needs of students. In addition, online education is focused on the

concept of learning by doing because students are involved in the process of learning

based on their learning skills. Many students consider this approach more useful for

them. and it is because you can review the topic chosen for each lesson and watch the

record of the class.

CONCLUSION

Thus, it is necessary to conclude that due to technological advancements, online

education has become an alternative to traditional education. It can be viewed as a

very popular form of learning among today’s students because of multiple advantages,

such as low costs, flexibility, time-saving, and others. I recommend for you to assess

the advantages and disadvantages of online education and traditional education in

order to make the right decision on how to receive the degree, meeting personal needs

or simply receiving classes as well.
